In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 53A(6)(a) and 67(1) of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995[1], the Secretary of State for Education and Skills hereby makes the following Order: Citation 1. This Order may be cited as the Disability Discrimination Codes of Practice (Education) (Appointed Day) Order 2002. Appointed Day 2. The day appointed for the coming into effect of the Codes of Practice specified in the Schedule (copies of which were laid before Parliament on 23rd May 2002 and which were issued by the Disability Rights Commission on 8th July 2002) is 1st September 2002. (This note is not part of the Order) This Order appoints 1st September 2002 as the day on which the Disability Rights Commission Codes of Practice for Schools and for providers of Post-16 education and related services (both of which were issued on 8th July 2002) come into effect. The Code of Practice for Schools relates to the provisions on disability discrimination in schools inserted at Chapter 1 of Part IV of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 by the Special Educational Needs and Disability Act 2001. The Code of Practice for providers of Post-16 education and related services relates to the provisions on disability discrimination in further and higher education inserted at Chapter 2 of Part IV of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 by the Special Educational Needs and Disability Act 2001.
