The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 70(3) of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995[1], and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following order:- Citation 1. This Order may be cited as the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (Commencement No. 6) Order 1999. Appointed days 2. The day appointed for the coming into force of the provisions of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 specified in article 4 below is 26th April 1999. 3. The day appointed for the coming into force of the provisions of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 specified in article 5 below is 1st October 1999. 4. The provisions referred to in article 2 above are-
(b) section 21(5) (regulations affecting th - e duty of providers of services to make adjustments).

The provisions referred to in article 3 above are-
(b) section 15(1)(a) , and sections 15(2) to 15(10) (duty of trade organisations to make adjustments) (c) section 19(1)(b) (discrimination in relation to goods, facilities and services) (d) section 20(2) (meaning of "discrimination") (e) section 20(5) (costs disregard) (f) section 20(9) (meaning of "treatment") (g) sections 21(1), 21(2)(d), 21(4), 21(6) and 21(10) (duty of providers of services to make adjustments).
(This note is not part of the Order) This Order provides for the coming into force on 26th April 1999 of provisions in the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 enabling the making of Regulations. It also provides for the coming into force on 1st October 1999 of sections 14(2), 14(4) and 14(5) and s15 (save for section 15(1)(b)) of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 which relate to the duty of trade organisations to make adjustments for disabled persons. It further provides for the coming into force on 1st October 1999 of sections 19(1)(b), 20(2), 20(5), 20(9) and 21(1), 21(2)(d), 21(4), 21(6) and 21(10) which relate to the duty of providers of services to make adjustments for disabled persons. A Regulatory Impact Assessment including the costs and benefits of the coming into force of sections 19(1)(b), 20(2), 20(5), 20(9), 21(1), 21(2)(d), 21(4), 21(6) and 21(10) of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 is available to the public from Charles Fuller, Disability Policy Division, Department for Education and Employment, Level 4, Caxton House, 6-12 Tothill Street, London SW1H 9NA.
