ANIMALS The Welfare of Animals at Markets (Amendment) Order 1993
1. This Order may be cited as the Welfare of Animals at Markets (Amendment) Order 1993 and shall come into force on 1st January 1994, except for article 2(2) which shall come into force on 1st January 1995.
2.(1) The Welfare of Animals at Markets Order 1990[2] shall be amended in accordance with this Order. (2) After article 5 the following article shall be added: "Lambs and goat kids with unhealed navels 5A. No person shall bring to a market, or allow to be exposed for sale in a market, a lamb or goat kid with an unhealed navel.". (3) After article 6 the following article shall be added: "Protection of lambs and goat kids 6A. The market operator shall ensure that any lamb aged under 4 weeks (other than a lamb which is at the foot of its dam) and any goat kid aged under 4 weeks is removed from the market without undue delay, and in any event not more than 4 hours after arrival.". (4) In article 12 (provision of lighting and bedding) at the end there shall be added in place of the full stop the following:
(5) In article 13 (covered accommodation) at the end the following paragraphs shall be added:
(4) It shall be the duty of the market operator to ensure that any such lamb (other than a lamb which is at the foot of its dam) or goat kid is kept in the accommodation provided in accordance with the preceding paragraph.". (6) In article 14(3) for paragraph (c) there shall be substituted the following paragraph:
