About United Kingdom Legislation

This Web site is managed by Her Majesty’s Stationery Office on behalf of the Queen’s Printer. The site contains the full text of all Public and Local Acts of the UK Parliament, the Explanatory Notes to Public Acts, Statutory Instruments and Draft Statutory Instruments; and Measures of the General Synod of the Church of England.

The site includes the full text of all legislation enacted by the UK Parliament and delegated legislation (Statutory Instruments) whether this applied to the United Kingdom as a whole or only to constituent parts of the UK (eg Scotland).

From 1 July 1999 all Statutory Rules of Northern Ireland have been transferred to the Northern Ireland Legislation Web site where all new legislation and delegated legislation applying solely to Northern Ireland will be published. From the same date all new Acts of the Scottish Parliament and Scottish Statutory Instruments will be found on the Scotland Legislation Web site. Similarly the new dual-language Statutory Instruments made by the National Assembly for Wales will be published on the Wales Legislation Web site.

The aim is to publish these documents on the Internet simultaneously or at least within 24 hours of their publication in printed from. However, any document which is especially complex in terms of its size or its typography may take longer to prepare.

The search engine has been designed to help identify the document that you wish to browse and will search the text of all documents on this site.
